• Distributed sensors and actuators close to the machine process
• IO-Link or digital I/O locations using documented M12 power and signal connectivity

Not recommended for

• Unsealed connectors or environments outside the manual's chemical and temperature conditions
• Applications whose cable voltage drop and power segmentation have not been calculated

Selection steps

1. Map field devices — Separate standard digital signals from IO-Link devices and record port class/current requirements.
2. Check environmental exposure — Verify ingress, temperature, vibration and cleaning conditions against the manual.
3. Design M12 topology — Select network, power and signal cables and calculate voltage drop for the full run.
4. Validate commissioning files — Confirm the PLC device description and IO-Link IODD workflow before installation.
